Veteran’s Day Luncheon

Reaghan Benton , Staff Member

Every year, Groveton’s FCCLA plans and prepares a Veteran’s Day Luncheon for local veterans and their families. FCCLA currently has around 118 members; most were present to help with the luncheon. This year brought out around 550 veterans and their families to the luncheon. The FCCLA offered two options for the veteran’s lunch this year: veterans could pick up their lunch in the drive-thru or sit down and enjoy their lunch in the auditorium. Veterans last were able to enjoy the luncheon in the auditorium before Covid. Students were excited to welcome guests into the decorated auditorium.

FCCLA served twice-baked potatoes, beans, rolls, brisket, ribs, and sausage made by Mr. Dillard. For dessert, they had Oreo Balls and an assortment of cookies. They also had a wide variety of drinks. The radio station Kicks 105 came around and took pictures of the FCCLA kids working with veterans. Every year, students do projects to give to the veterans as a gift. Mrs. Woodards’ class helped create many projects that filled the auditorium this year.

This is an event that takes a while to plan and prep for. However, Mrs. Plotts has done a fantastic job organizing this event for our local veterans every year. Staff, students, and guests alike were impressed with everything done to prepare for this luncheon. We are so thankful for our students and staff who put their hearts into events like these. Also, thank you to our veterans and their service to our country!
